USP Pharmaceutical Testing (cGMP)

SGS PSI provides testing of chloroxylenol per the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) monograph.

Chloroxylenol, or para-chloro-meta-xylenol (PCMX), is a disinfectant and antiseptic for use in disinfecting surgical instruments and on the skin. It can be found in antibacterial soaps and wound-cleansing agents. It is included on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of essential medicines. SGS PSI can test for identification, assay, impurities, and water determination.

Approaches

Identification can be determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR per the applicable USP monograph.

The assay of chloroxylenol is measured by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector GC-FID.

Impurities are determined by a combination of wet chemistry methods and gas chromatography. Residue on Ignition, iron content, limit of tetrachloroethylene, and organic impurities are determined per the designated USP methods.

Water determination by Karl Fischer Titration  is also indicated in the chloroxylenol USP monograph.
